Deanery Prayer Leaflet

For the Gravesend Deanery

Give thanks and pray for all from Diocese and Deanery who contribute to help sustain the life of our parishes. Pray for all parishes, especially wardens and lay leaders where there are comings and goings of clergy. 

Pray for wisdom and guidance for all making strategic and practical decisions both nationally and in our local churches and schools and especially as we deal with issues relating to Covid-19, mission and holding services.

St George’s School

For Steve Carey and all the staff, in whatever capacity; for students, parents and carers; for Chair of Governors, John Harding, and the Governors; for Trudi Oliver, School Chaplain. Pray for staff and students who have recently joined the school; for all those (teaching and ancillary staff) working to provide a stabile and safe education. 


St Aidan, Gravesend

We give thanks, Lord, for the changing seasons. We give thanks for the Harvest and pray for all farmers, rural communities and those who promote local produce and responsible, sustainable agriculture and fishing.

We pray for those in our Deanery who will be providing alternatives to Hallowe'en as we look to celebrate light and hope. 

We give thanks for those who gave their lives in service of their country during time of war, and for those on active service today, and their families.

We pray for Fr. Simon as he begins the next stage of his training; for all the priests who have helped him and will continue to advise him.

We pray for all who have lost loved ones that they may find support and comfort.

Huggens College, Northfleet

Please pray for all Collegians, staff and Trustees at Huggens College. Thanks are continually given for the beautiful grounds and gardens used daily by Collegians.

Thanksgiving for all those who deliver to college, post, food and other deliveries. Thanks are given for the Chapel and the daily prayer, morning and evening, which is offered in that beautiful place. As with everyone at this difficult time, pray that Collegians, their families and friends, remain safe and well, in body, mind and spirit.

Give thanks for Fr Cyril, and the plans for growing God’s Kingdom in this parish; for our outreach into the community, showing God’s love to all. 

For our faithful congregation attending each Sunday, as we pray for those who, for whatever reason, worship from their homes; we are one in the Spirit. 

For Debbie and the team as they move the Hive Hope Food Bank to St Botolph’s Hall. (from Wednesday 7th October 11-1) 

Churches Together 'Sanctuary Project' (Homeless Shelter) as they plan to move into a property on Overcliffe, providing separate rooms for their guests.

St Mark, Rosherville 

We give thanks that Fr Cyril has been licensed as Priest in Charge, and we pray for his spiritual journey with us. We also pray for Denneshia and Delia as they support him in this. We pray for Marion, our PCC and Steve, our Church Warden. We pray for a time when it will be safe to open our church so that we can all meet together and praise the Lord.

We pray for the scientists around the world working hard to develop a vaccine against Covid 19 and for those who are particularly anxious at this time.

Christ Church, Milton

Pray God's blessing and compassion on all in the parish who are finding life difficult during the ongoing Covid crisis, especially those living alone and with no family support.

'All good gifts around us are sent from heaven above'. At harvest time let us give thanks to God for his abundant gifts and for all who work year round in the farming community

Pray for those working toward the appointment of a new vicar for Christ Church, that they may know God's will and that he would enable and encourage them in their task

We pray for Revd’s Mike and Karen Nelson as they move from us and Gravesend, to their new jobs. We give thanks for Mike’s extended time with us and everything he has brought and given to St George’s. We pray for the people of Twydall where Mike will be their new Vicar.  

We give thanks that Mark Edwards will be joining us as our new Curate, next Summer. We pray for Mark and his family in this time of transition.

For our APCM, and those willing to stand for PCC and Deanery Synod.

Pray that our focus on Black History Month in October will increase awareness and understanding amongst our community. Pray for those putting together some resources.

Pray that we can all manage in this time of great uncertainty of what we can and cannot do, and ever-changing Government restrictions; for our local schools and any of our young people who are particularly anxious at this time.

St Mary, Chalk 

Give thanks that the Parish Hall was able to reopen in September; pray for the community groups and preschool now using the premises in a Covid safe way.

Give thanks for Loaves and Fishes, reaching out to very young children and parents; may those who have”graduated” continue to know and learn more of Jesus love.

Pray for Hands of Compassion School, Zambia, especially the need for money to feed the children.

Pray for wisdom and guidance as to how, in these unusual times, we may draw the needy to see the love of God this Christmas. Pray for those feeling deep pain due to loss of any kind.

St Mary, Wrotham Road

We pray for our ordinand, Hannah, as she starts her training and pray that God will guide her . We pray for the ministry teams and PCC in all Churches; we Give thanks that we are able to come together and worship

We pray for all who are still suffering from the effects of Covid 

We give thanks for the wedding of Jack and Emma, and pray they will have a long and very happy life together.

We give thanks for the appointment of Charlie Lloyd-Evans as the new Priest in Charge of the parishes of Greenhithe and Swanscombe. Please join us in praying for her and her husband, Gareth, in all they have to do as they plan and prepare to leave the United Arab Emirates and move into the Rectory in Swanscombe. 

We thank God for those from both churches who have been working together to prepare the Rectory and pray we will continue to work together and be open to change in the future.
